Daido Super Alloy (DSA) 760 is a heat resistant alloy combining chromium, aluminium and nickel. It is also resistant to high temperature corrosion – MHI estimated that DSA 760 reduces wear rate on the combustion surface by around 60%, leading to a 2.5 times extension to the life of exhaust valves.
The high corrosion resistance compared with the current material was verified by an eighteen-month test on a vessel using a large-bore UE engine. MHI now plans to commercialise the new exhaust valves.
